Brace Yourselves, Summer is Coming.

Well, it’s that time of year again. From the hustle and bustle in the office, and the parking lot behind me, I can safely say that the relocation busy season is upon us. And, if the strengthening housing market and increase in relocation activity is any indication, this year will be busier than it has been in several years. How are you managing the season so far?

As we kick into high gear, I think the most challenging part of this summer is going to be household goods moving. Moving company schedules have gotten tighter year over year – mostly becauseRelocation Busy Season there aren’t as many trucks and drivers to handle the increases in volume over the years. I think it’s probably a good idea to brace for larger spreads and even delays on shipments. Being perfectly honest, if your company has a direct billing arrangement with a moving company, either on its own or through a third party, your transferees will fare better than those transferees who have to source moving services on their own as individual customers.

Outside of household moving, we will have our normal summer stressors. Since we work with relocation families throughout the year, we understand the very stressful nature of moving. We also understand the pressure that HR is under to ensure that relocation policies are meeting the needs of the transferees, as well as the budget. With increased volume, comes increased pressure for all parties. We’ve even written about how to manage relocation busy season stress in the past. It’s probably a good time to round up your team to talk about some best practices for dealing with the busy summer so that everyone is on the same page.

As I was thinking about the busy relocation season this week, it dawned on me that we have a great EBook on how to survive the busy season and that I should share it here again for our readers. We call it an oldie, but goodie, and it has a special place in my heart because it was the first EBook XONEX ever wrote and published – and now we have so many relocation downloads!

In this EBook we cover:

  • Understanding your transferee base
  • Bringing the team together
  • Managing expectations
  • Must do’s for communication your relocation policy
  • Troubleshooting

You can download the Ebook here (no information required):
