What’s the Real Impact of the New RESPA Forms?

In the past week, I have attended two relocation industry conferences, where there were spirited discussions regarding the RESPA changes, slated to take effect this August.  This legislation was designed with two primary objectives: make consumers better aware of charges (anticipated and actual) associated with the closing of their new home; and consolidate several confusing currently used forms into fewer, more concise documents.  Further, within the process, lenders are given additional responsibilities and time frame for providing buyers the anticipating charges.  The final (cost) disclosure statement must be received by the buyer a minimum of 3 days prior to the settlement (which will now be referred to as “Loan Consummation”).  If they are not, or if there are any changes beyond the specifically permitted limits, closing cannot take place until three days after the proper disclosure document is provided.

Helpful Networking Tips for Everyone

Southeast Regional Relocation Conferences and EventsBack in September I attended the Southeastern Regional Relocation Council fall conference, one of my big relocation industry conferences and events. The whole event was a great learning experience, but one session in particular stuck with me. Heather Post from Etiquette Seed presented a session titled “Business Etiquette.” Her humorous style and high quality information regarding the importance of networking made for an incredible session. With holiday parties approaching and new goals being set, I thought it’d be great to take what I learned from her, and spread some helpful networking tips for everyone, in any industry.

Two Relocation and HR Lessons from the Worldwide ERC Conference

As you know, I recently attended the Worldwide ERC conference in Chicago, IL. I love leaving a conference with my head filled with new experiences, new friends and a whirlwind of new educational information. In addition to my learnings about big data and relocation, which I discussed in my last post, I also took away two recurring lessons that I want to share here. These lessons dominated my dinner table conversation so, clearly, everyone is thinking about it!

Can Big Data Bring Relocation into the Future?

Who out there went to the recent Worlwide ERC Global Workforce Symposium in Chicago? I think it’s one of the best relocation conferences and events every year. We had a great time in the “Windy” city, which has a lot of history, skyscrapers and great places to eat. Fun fact: did you know that the Hilton Chicago (where the conference was held) is a famous landmark that overlooks Grant Park, Lake Michigan, and the Museum Campus? It is also the third-largest hotel in Chicago and has the largest total meeting and event space of any Chicago hotel. The hotel has housed every president of the United States since its opening in 1927!

How to Study for the Certified Relocation Professional Exam

Certified Relocation ProfessionalGetting my Corporate Relocation Professional (CRP) Designation from the Worldwide Employee Relocation Council (ERC) is a goal that I’ve been working towards since my first day here at XONEX Relocation. With the exam coming up in May, my study sessions have become much more vigorous. Since I’m sure there are a lot of readers out there who are also trying to get ready for this exam, I thought it appropriate to share some preparation and study tips that I have found helpful.

Top Three Relocation and HR Conferences for 2013

Relocation Conferences and eventsEveryone in relocation loves a good conference. And, why wouldn’t we? Conferences are great ways to meet new people, reunite with old friends and learn about any new developments that can impact our businesses. Personally, I think January is a great time to assess the conference landscape to start making decisions (or at least a wish list) about events to attend. In fact, earlier this week I read a post over at Blogging 4 Jobs about upcoming HR and recruiting conferences. It gave me the idea to highlight some of our favorite conferences for the year. So, without further ado, here are our top three HR and corporate relocation conferences for 2013.

Live Relocation Event: Get the Buzz from ERC’s Global Workforce Symposium

It’s that time of year again! I’m thrilled to be at Worldwide ERC’s Global Workforce Symposium in Washington, D.C. today. One of the things I love about this conference is networking. I get to meet some really cool people. In fact, I’ve already chatted with someone from The Geek Squad, a fine home builder, a real estate professional who has pedaled 600 miles on his bike, a straight shooting HR professional that I’ve known forever, a sky-diving mortgage expert and a global mobility manager that does sprint triathlons. Needless to say, the cocktail conversation has been great. So, I thought, what’s a better way to share it with you than to blog live from the event?

There’s No App for That

iPhone 4 BOKEHWith the advances in technology today you can pretty much do everything with the touch of a button, tap of the finger or swipe of the hand. I love a good app, so I have magic little icons to help me with everything from crunching numbers on a spreadsheet to writing letters, shopping, video conferencing, traveling and even dining (I actually do eat, but you get the picture!).

It’s a Small World After All

It's a Small Relocation WorldRecently, as I was merrily making my way to the Hyatt Regency in downtown Denver for the 2011 Global Workforce Symposium (a relocation conference) in mid-October, I found myself sharing a shuttle bus ride with a, shall we say, hippy-esque type of gentleman from Michigan. He sported a mop-top head of white hair, wore orange and red prayer beads around his neck and peered at me through his round, Lennon-like specs. His name was Frank and he was wildly fascinating.
